This is at Tiwi Beach near Mombasa. We are actually on the main land and Mombasa is the island. It also is a high touristy area.
Me and Jaden!
Emma, and Anya on our hammock!
The student crew in the Beehive cottage.Me and Jaden doing what we do best...
On the way to the African nature pool...(self explanatory: a nature pool in the shape of Africa. It has a reef around it. You can swim all in it and even swim under the reef into "Madagascar". Beware of Sea Urchins though! Those things are sharp!
Jumping into the pool! We can do this!! (It's only like a 10 foot jump..)
And you have to make sure to jump over the rocks to clear them...
Ester's turn! Gavin (On the far right, is showing us how to climb up)
Camel rides on the beach anyone?Lounging around on the veranda...
Go Ethan!
Just us beach girls...
All us kids! (well, with a few missing..)
Underwater view..
My first attempt "surfing" and I ended up with this.. (confession: so maybe I was just trying to stand on the board in the midst of waves..)
Trying to balance!
Star fish!
Zeph and Isaac kept trying to turn us over!
Emma collecting shells on her board.
On our trip to Mombasa, we were stuck in traffic waiting for the ferry. It should have taken us 45 minutes and it took us 3 hours. Another funny storry.. We got out to look at clothes on the shops lining the road. The first shop we got out of the car, into one shop and our car moved about 100 feet (the farthest it had moved in 1.5 hours!). We ran all the way down the street and jumped into the car. Everyone was cracking up watching these Wazungu run down the road!
These poor guys push this cart down the hill, across the ferry, and back up to the top in this 90-something degree weather..
The streets of Mombasa!
The "People Ferry".
GREAT cure for hurting sunburn? Soak a washcloth in 1 cup of vinegar, and a couple ice cubes. It draws the heat out. Reapply lotion after!
Fresh juice and Jesus time in the shade!
Ogrey looking out for us and enjoying the ocean breeze..
These ladies sit out everyday, showing off their congas and Kicoys. (Different wraps/ skirts)
Amos opening it for us..
Beautiful isn't it?
Me and Ester during the stormy day..
Our cottage from upstairs..
Our porch outside our room...
This is Edward and Ogrey. Ogrey is our cook (who spoils us!) and Edward is our house cleaner/ dish washer/ protector from the monkeys. Monkeys are not afraid of white people and try to scare us..jerks.
Ogrey is leaving to go back to Nairobi today, and he came and pick us these flowers from the yard. He really is the best!
And The Hands On girls!
Amy and Kasey...
Most of these pictures count the good moments and neglect the bad.. For example, the mosquitoes, monkeys getting into our stuff, ants, the hot humid weather, the salt water showers, the sweat dripping nights trying to sleep, and the people who pester you trying to get you to buy from them, and the jellyfish stings...
Guess you can't have everything! :) I have to say, I can still suffer for Jesus here of he really wanted me to...
